How this crazy state thing works…

Because Kansas takes great pride in their state track and field meet, they host all 6 classes at one location.  Yes, Cessna Stadium is host to all 6 classes of athletes.  Hopefully, this note will help to explain how the state meet works.  On Friday morning the 1A, 2A, and 3A school will compete.  Then Friday afternoon the 4A, 5A, and 6A compete.  So our first athlete to compete will be David Sosna in the 110 hurdle prelims.  First up will be the 4A prelims in 110 H, then 5A prelims then 6A prelims.  When he qualifies for finals he will run on Saturday at 9:50.  But on Saturday all the classes will be performing.  They will start at 9:50 with the finals in the 1A 110 H.  Followed by 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, and then David in the 6A finals.  So in essence it is more accurate to look at the time of the “next event” to see when our 6A athletes will be performing. The next event on the track is scheduled to occur at 10:10.  David will be performing closer to 10:10 than 9:50 as advertised.

Now as you begin to see the light of how this all works-you must also understand that it is a rolling schedule and therefore it maybe running sooner or later than the advertised time.  Finally, once you have this all figured out for this year, next year we move to mornings and the lower classes move to afternoon.
